There's always an excuse to fall off the blogroll. Of course even German telecommunication giant Telecom's 20th century service doesn't justify this long a silence (although it did take four weeks to switch over our broadband from one appartment to the other). But now we're home again. Above is the view from our bedroom, below from the kitchen. Place is definitely a good reason to not leave the house. Although Munich on a long weekend like this develops this radically rowdy Daytona Beach vibe, which turns most of the inner city into party central, so if you felt like it, you could spend your whole weekend stumbling through the streets, beer in hand, meeting new friends for life on every other corner. Our best man Don Flan was here for a while (finally somebody who got out obscure references to ancient pop cultures, exotic foods and current affairs again). He sure got his fill of Bavarian culture (see his entry).

Great to have you back, AK! It's been quite a while...
What have you been up to lately? Are there new records we should listen to or new books we have to read?
Putting out papers, writing stories. Mostly. And sure there's plenty to listen to and read. The new albums by Kerri Chandler, Ryan Adams and Michael Brecker, Christopher Hitchens' brillant atheist rant, Ishmael Beah's child soldier memoir "Long Way Gone", and Rajaa Alsanea's Girls of Riyadh, which is kind of a Saudi Sex & the City....
Thanks AK, that's just great. Have you already read Wright's "The Looming Tower"?
I don't like Hitchens that much, maybe I'll give him another chance. But Ishmael Beah sounds very interesting!
Looming Tower is probably the by far best book on the rise of Islamism so far. Jeffrey Wright is performing in New York in some downtown theater, talking about his experiences during research. Should you be there...
I'm stuck in Germany. Damn it. But I'm love. So everything's fine. Now only soccer has to become interesting and I'll feel quite well in Bavaria.
