Brooklyn Nostalgia

Sitting on the deck at 136 Coffey not getting a boat, driving down Cadman Plaza in a Dodge Charger with white leather seats, David's got a new poetry volume out, three rounds with Charlie, John's still sad, but very funny I still got credit at Sunny's, Zohey's and Ben's daughters name is Jasper, El Cantante's playing at the Cobble Hill, the soccer field vendors have not been driven out, but badly beaten by Rich's Caha China pork, Saturday afternoon beers at the Red Hook Pier Park watching the Seastreak pass by Liberty Island, hearing that Sniffy's in the pokey, dumplings at Do Wha with the heartbreak posse, collectively missing - Fred!, driving back from Connecticut with Freeman Dyson. And, oh yeah, Darwinian evolution was just a phase.

it's almost like you're here. These echos of life and memory. But it's getting to be a longer and longer time.

Tonight is one of those post summer sultry hot September nights. School has started, Friday night with the window air conditioner on; City streets getting cut up and traffic oozing over the bridges. Julia is reading Calvin and Hobbes with the air conditioner blowing on my back. Jacob had his first ray of preschool and can't get enough of the world (he doesn't have a clue). Julia just said, "i'm just going tj close my eyes." Maggie already did. It's only 9 o'clock. There are many private worlds to explore here. Are the ones in Germany already called for? Won't they let you in?
